Murchison Falls National Park


Murchison Falls Conservation Area ( MFCA ) comprises of Murchison Falls National Park, Bugungu and Karuma Falls Wildlife Reserves and is bi-sected by the River Nile.. The park is Located in the northwest of Uganda, approximately 90km from Masindi.

 

The vegetation is characterised by savannah, riverine forest and woodland. Wildlife includes lions, Leopards, Elephants, Giraffes, Hartebeests, Oribis, Uganda Kobs, Chimpanzees, and many kinds of bird species.

 

Activities: various activities are carried out in the park, some of which include trips to the base of the falls, fine game-viewing and birdwatching, boat trips to the Lake Albert delta provide the best chance in Africa of sighting shoebills.


Chimp tracking at Rabongo Forest and game drives on a good network of roads. More activities include sport fishing and nature trails.

 

How to get there: A day's drive from Kampala, with a possible overnight break at Masindi.

 

Where to stay: The park also offers accomodation at the camp sites on top of the falls as well as traditional and self-contained bandas. Tourists can also stay at Paraa Safari Lodge, Nile Safari Camp , Masindi Hotel, and Red Chilli Hideaway all located inside and/or around the park.
