Mountain Elgon National Park.

Mountain Elgon National Park is situated near Mbale in Eastern Uganda and lies across the Kenyan border. Mt Elgon is known to be the fourth highest mountain in East Africa and second highest peak in Uganda, towering up to 4321 meters. It contains a crater at the top of the mountain that is surrounded by a series of rugged peaks. It's slopes are characterized with vegetation zones ranging from montane forest to high open moorland studded with the other-worldly giant lobelia and groundsel plants. The Park consists a large variety of plant and animal species such as mixed Bamboo, heath and moorland zones, and animals such as leopards, Blue and White Colobus monkey, hyena and buffalos. There also bird species like the African Goshawk, Mackinon's Fiscal, the Bablafecht weaver and many more.

Activities: Activities include bird watching, mountain hiking, trekking, day hikes and forest exploration, camping, guide escorts and there are also a variety of attractions outide the park like campsites and lodging facilities, together with the magnifiscent Sipi falls located 66 km from Mbale.

How to get there: Mbale lies 3-4 hours from Kampala. The trailhead at Budadiri, 20km from Mbale, is accessible by public transport.
