Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Mgahinga National Park is found in South Western Uganda, bordering Congo and Rwanda and about 14 km from Kisoro Town.
The area covering the park is mountainous, covering the northern slopes of the three Virunga Volcanoes namely Mt. Muhavura- 4,127 m, Mt. Mgahinga-3,474 m, and Mt. Sabinyo-3,645 m, and experiences an afro-montane vegetation and a generally cool climate. Animals found in the Park include buffaloes, Golden Monkeys, Elephants and most especially Gorillas. There also includes various bird species like Crowned Crane, Black Kite, Crowned Honbill and many more.
Activities: Gorilla Tracking is the most exciting activity carried out in the park. However there is also Volcano climbing on the mountains Mt Sabinyo, Mt Mgahinga and Mt Muhavura, Bird watching and also Cave exploration.
How to get there: Kisoro is about 540 km from Kampala and it takes about 8 hours via Kabale by car. For public transport, there are daily buses/minibuses, which set off at 7.00pm from Kampala. Once in Kisoro Town, you can hike to the park or hire a cab to the park gate.
Where to stay: Mt.Gahinga Rest Camp, Virunga Hotel, Mgahinga Safari Lodge, Traveller's Rest Camp, Sky Blue, Rugigana Camp Site, Mubano Hotel and many more. Travellers can also stay at Queens Hotel in Kabale on the way to or from the park.
