Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

 

Located in South Western Uganda, on the edge of the Western Rift Valley is on of the largest National Parks in Uganda and contains both montane and lowland forest. It is a habitat for a large number of plants and animals and homes half the world's population of Mountain Gorillas.

The park is famous for it's Impenetrable rain forest that also contains some of the world's finest bird species, about 360 species. There also exists various species of mammals, for example elephants 200 species of butterflies. The rain forest has dense under growth that includes fern, vines, shrubs. About 324 tree species have been recorded, 10 of which occur nowhere else in Uganda.

 

Activities: The most dominat activity is Gorilla Trekking. Other activities include Bird watching, Nature guided walks, Cultural performances and also river trails, such as the Ruizi river trail, Muzabajirro river trail, Munyanga river trail, also the bamboo trail and more. The Park offers accomodation in tents and rest camps.

 

How to get there: Bwindi can be reached from the Queen Elizabeth National Park in the north (2-3 hours), from Kabale to the south (1-2 hours), or from Kampala via Mbarara (6-8 hours). Heavy cars are recommended for travel.


Where to stay: Mantana Tented Camps provide accomodation in the Park. The Local community also operate a Rest camp with clean and simple Bandas.
